hypios Sweeps the Dreamers at Mini Seedcamp Paris
Paris, 17 April 2010 — At Mini Seedcamp Paris’ April 15 event, online research and development (R&D) problem-solving site hypios.com was chosen as one of the top five startups to compete.
Of about 20 startups in attendance, five were distinguished as “coups de coeur,” or favorites in terms of technology, scalability and promise: hypios.com, English Attack!, Openways, Tigerlily and Tryane. Of the five, hypios is the sole company to specifically target the R&D divisions of large firms.
“It was an honor to be selected in the top five,” said vp concept/communications Klaus-Peter Speidel, who presented on hypios’ behalf, “but the real pleasure was being able to see other social technology being developed to aid human needs and communication — from teaching English remotely (English Attack!) to bringing more flexible applications to marketers (Tigerlily). hypios is only one part of a complete picture of social problem-solving.”
“What makes our offering special is its ability to make people dream,” observed deputy CEO Greg Hermann, who also represented hypios at Seedcamp. “The challenges we get range from the mundane to the spectacular — and the vast majority find a solution that the problem’s home industry might never have considered.”
hypios helps top-tier companies solve R&D problems by broadcasting them to a diversity of solvers from around the world. Problems that appeared on the site, and have received solutions, range from marine batteries that biodegrade in the sea, to developing a model for frame-dragging consistent with the general theory of relativity. Current problems on the site include one seeking a non-metallic “twist-tie” type material for food package closure.
Seedcamp is dedicated to improving Europe’s startup community by connecting the most promising developers and entrepreneurs to over 400 mentors hailing from established organizations, including serial entrepreneurs, product experts, recruiters, venture capitalists, seed investors, journalists and marketers. It also serves as a micro seed fund in its own right.
